This is a versatile addition for mounting any of a number of accessories to either side of the RS series gimbals using the NATO port dovetails. I am currently trying it out for holding a large panel light and an HDMI monitor as shown in the first photo.Everything except the phone holder is nicely made of CNC machined aluminum (with steel screws of course). The finish is black or red anodizing, not powder coating. One side of the extension has a cold shoe and the other has a tilting and rotating mount with a male 1/4-20 thumbscrew. This mount turns and tilts smoothly with the right amount of friction. The phone holder part is plastic and metal, however it is a structurally rigid plastic and aside from a little initial stiffness appears to be designed better than most of the spring-loaded flexible plastic holders that I have encountered. However there are two issues that are less than ideal. I down rated one star overall and two stars for the value because even though I can fix both of these things they may affect your usage. And you shouldn't have to fix problems on a new accessory even if it is under $30.The first issue is that the movable part of the dovetail saddle (under the red lever) has no guide pins and the fit on the threaded rod is sloppy, enabling the clamp to tilt when tightened as shown. The clamp still works but this is not ideal for mating with the gimbal's dovetail and there is a little unnecessary binding on the lever screw caused by the tilting as you tighten it.The second issue is that for several of my 1/4-20 female accessories that I have tried to attach, including the monitor in the first photo AND even the plastic phone adapter that is part of this kit, the male threads are too long and the screw bottoms out in the accessory before it tightens down on the rubber pad. Note the gap between the phone holder and the tilt mount in the photo above, (about 0.040" or 1mm). This is shown with the screw fully bottomed out in the phone holder.I can fix the excessive screw length by disassembling the tilt mount and either grinding some off the end of the screw or by adding a spacer washer under the knurled thumbscrew. The tilting saddle clamp is a more difficult thing to fix, although when I have encountered this on other devices I have been known to machine the parts to add alignment pins. I don't think there is room to do that here, so I may end up living with this. This product looks good otherwise but as is often the case a couple of missed details can spoil the value. It's not bad as long as you can deal with the above issues, assuming that these are not isolated problems with my unit.
