I wanted a multi-card memory card reader that could read multiple types of memory cards and this one does the trick. Able to read microSD cards, SD cards, Memory Stick cards, Memory Stick, Compact Flash cards, and xD Picture Cards. Every type of memory card that the cameras I have use. Can read and write on five cards simultaneously if needed. Connecting to your PC via USB-A 3.0, the transfer speeds are fast. Plug and play, no hassle. Really great reader!

I don’t care how fancy your computer, you’ll never have all the ports and interfaces you need to engage the spectrum of flash storage media that’s out in the wild. If you have digital cameras, game/trail cameras, mp3 players, and similar devices, a convenient accessory to add to your computer toolbox is a “multi-reader” like the one from Rocketek. The Rocketek reader plugs into a standard USB socket (on your computer) and splits that signal out to a series of 7 different media sockets. You’ll find sockets for type CF, SD (2 types), TF(2 types), XD and MS.The device worked fine on my Dell mini-tower running Mint Linux. I do wish this reader had a slot for Smart Media (old Olympus cameras), though I don’t hold that against it. What does bother me is the following:The advertising text claims that this is a “USB C” device, and the photo and the web page actually depicts an interesting 3-headed cable that appears to support USB type C, USB type A, and whatever Apple calls their interface (Lightning?). That would make this device potentially useful for, among other things, backing up data from your cell phone. Unfortunately, the unit I received has no such cable on it! My unit is terminated with a plain USB A connector, and that’s it. So... phone backups are off the table.Another thing... One of the advertising photos actually shows the media reader loaded up with numerous cards, simultaneously. It would be nice if you could put more than one card in the reader at once, because you could then make card-to-card copies. Unfortunately, this is not the case. I tried putting two flash cards into the reader at the same time, but it only registered one of them as a mountable drive. If you physically remove the mounted flash card and then reset the interface (unplug/replug) it then recognizes the other. Stated another way... you can only mount one card at a time. Again... the advertising seems to promise what the product does not deliver. That’s not to say this product doesn’t have some usability in its present form, but a purchaser making a buy-decision on this reader must accept on faith that the claims for features or specifications on the web page are correct. I take a dim view of a product when this turns out not to be the case.

The Multicard reader is just what it says it is. It is a good card reader that handles multiple memory card formats which is very handy. The one memory card format that this reader does not support though is the new CF Express (A &B variety) format. For that you will need a separate card reader. Additionally, this card reader uses a typical USB type A port. If you want to connect it to a USB Type C on some of the newer laptops (which sometimes don't have any legacy Type A ports included), you will need a separate adapter. I have another CF Express card reader that has the Type C to Type A adapter built right on to the end of the type C plug which I find very handy. I wish this had the same feature. However, if you have old cameras that use CompactFlash cards or SD cards this is what you want to get to read those cards off of your older cameras.

I got this to read the Compact Flash card from my SLR camera. Plugging it into a port on my iMac I get a blue connectivity light, and when inserting the card another light comes on next to the corresponding slot. Data transferred quickly without issue. On the downside, the permanently attached cable limits my chance to use this to feed data into my iPad without an additional cable. Also, the slots for the Compact Flash are rather shallow. The card is held in place, but mechanically it is not protected as much from lateral pressure. If you are always going to connect to a device with USB Type A slots, this should work well.

I do a lot of multimedia work and needed a memory card reader that was fast, and hoepfully with more than a single slot for each type. For micro SD and SD sized cards, this has been a fantastic find. I can put in 4 SD cards (2 of each size) and access all 4 quickly. Previously I had to swap out cards so when I'm working with data spread over multiple cards, this has saved me a lot of time over having to dismount cards and insert new ones.It is USB 3.x using a USB A connector. I have plugged this into a USB hub with type A connectors as well as a hub and a macbook pro using USB C, but that required an extra adapter to use USB C. Makes sure to get USB 3.x capable adapters to utilize the full speed of this reader if needing USB C connections.I'm getting more of these readers and in one case filling up an entire 4 port USB A hub with them so I can access 8 micro SD cards at the same time.
