I made the mistake of thinking these were completely heat proof- they are not. I fitted the first one so it was level with the end of the tip and so protected the tip from arcing out it I touched the work piece. A few tacks and it was gently smoldering with a big blob of melted plasic on the end.I should have known better I suppose. No plastic is going to withstand the temperature at the tip when welding. I have now fitted the next one so it is 1/2" set back and though the tip is not now protected it does cover the body of the gun nozzle. I'll see how this does and maybe try a ceramic shroud if I feel it necessary.

This plastic cover broke on the first use. I welded 50mm seam in 3mm steel. The plastic became brittle and cracked
