This is a useful pipette for low mL volumes. It is calibrated for the range 1000 – 5000 uL and can be set within that range in increments of 50 uL. The design and operation are completely standard and it is simple to use. Volumes are set by click increments of the top knob and although the selected volume cannot be locked, the resistance to change is sufficient to reliably keep the desired setting. A tip ejector is present and the plunger has the standard 2-stop blowout function.In addition to the pipette, an adjustment tool, a small pipette holder with adhesive backing which can be attached to a suitable surface to hold the pipette from the top knob, and a small tube of silicone lubricant are provided. One sample tip is also included. The tips fit well on the pipette while remaining easily removable.These are inexpensive pipettes and cannot be expected to perform as well as precision laboratory grade versions. However, the performance of this pipette was good. Measuring double distilled water aliquots on a 4-place analytical balance gave an estimated 0.3% RSD for replicate measurements, and a mean %bias of about +2.36% relative to the expected water mass at 23.3° C. These results were obtained out of the box and I expect the bias will be greatly reduced once I have the time to properly calibrate it. Overall, this is a good, flexible pipette for routine work, and considering its very reasonable price, I have rated it as a 5.
