I was delighted to receive this set of plastic-free containers made of wood and brass, as they should last a lifetime.There are two pale, two medium-coloured, and two dark-coloured containers in the pack and four of them are perfect, but the remaining two are a little less so, although still fully functional. One of them has brass that is not polished like the other four (but this obviously doesn't affect the function and is probably what the others will look like in years to come) - see pale one at the top of my photo - but I've not got a problem with this and haven't marked it down in my rating. The one that has lost it a star is the dark one on the right of my photo as the wood is just as it came off the lathe with a smooth but not-straight bottom, and the top is still flat with the hole made by the lathe on top - somebody forgot to shape it before putting it in the "finished" bin in the factory! That said, it's still just as functional, but just doesn't look or feel as nice as the others. Pity about this as they're really nice in other respects.The interior size is not huge - my photo shows a standard UK cocktail stick (which measures 8cm / 3¼ inches in length) next to the containers, plus one inside the centre dark one to show just how much the lid won't meet by, so if you use cocktail sticks as toothpicks, these won't be big enough, but if you buy dedicated toothpicks, these will be fine.For me, I want them primarily to store sewing needles, and they're the perfect size for that.Such a shame to only give 4 stars, which is solely down to one of the set I received not being properly finished. It's so refreshing to get something that's nice and plastic-free and I would have loved to have been able to justify full marks, but that's sadly not justified in this case.

I ordered these pretty wooden screw-top cases as little gifts to go inside my home-made Christmas crackers, and they will be perfect for that.They are really nicely made, good quality, and look great. The wood appears to be raw, so they could potentially be oiled or finished in some other way.For the crackers, I'm filling them with things appropriate to the person: needles for someone who does a lot of needlepoint; glasses repair tools for someone whose glasses fall apart; old fashioned violet cachous for someone who was recently reminiscing about them; chocolate-covered coffee beans...and so-on. But the beauty is that these wooden can be used for anything - in fact, I'm keeping one for myself as a pill-box.The internal space is about 12mm diameter and 70mm long when closed - the longer section is 50mm long. So they are too small for cigarettes (unless short roll-your-owns) although a young man assured me they are 'doobie cases'! Truth is, they are for whatever you might want them for.Very pleased with these tubes, and recommend!
