Just the item to have at hand when you do not have a common language with someone with whom you need to communicate verbally.When you open the app, there are 4 modes in which the earbuds can operate. (Additionally you can get it translate the text on a photo.) No matter which mode you choose, the conversation is converted to text and displayed in both languages on the app screen, so you can confirm that it heard the speech correctly. Some of these modes require that you get into a rhythm as you need to tap either the earbud or an area in the app.Working on the assumption that the other party does not have their own pair of F56 earbuds, you have several options. For both Touch Mode and Free Talk mode, you would let the other party use one of your earbuds. The only difference is that in the former you need to touch an earbud to indicate that you wish to speak; in the latter both of you simply talk (hopefully not at the same time!). Both these modes are very simple to configure in the app as you simply select the language that needs to be associated with each earbud and you are ready to go.On the other hand, if you are, for example, talking to someone on the phone and cannot offer them an earbud, or they simply do not wish to use an earbud, you can select Speaker Mode. In this mode you need to actively use the app to have a conversation and need to be aware where to tap. Select your own language in the drop-down with the earbud icon; select the other language in the right hand drop-down. If you tap the lower half of the screen, you do the talking and the translation is transmitted via the app, and anyone close by can hear (including a person on the phone). So here is where you need to be on the ball: as soon as you are done, you need to tap the top half of the screen so that it captures anything the other person says and then transmits the translated version via the earbuds. In all cases the text is also displayed in the app.The language choices are comprehensive and detailed, distinguishing between the same language as spoken in different countries - which is fantastic, as the idiom (and the pronunciation) often vary. Another bonus is that it stores the most recently selected languages + country variation in a short list at the top of a very extensive language catalog. Just below the recently used list, is a short list of common languages too; but if all else fails, simply search for the language by name. Languages are labeled according to the spelling or alphabet of that particular language with the English term in parentheses. On an aside, although it supports South African English and Zulu, it does not support Afrikaans or Flemish.The translation seems to be fairly accurate, but interestingly enough, it had trouble with the Spanish "si" and generally translated it as "if" rather than "yes" and once left it untranslated as "si"! I chose Spanish to test these earbuds as my Spanish is good enough to recognize some issues, but bad enough that I am unable to think on my feet when in conversation, and have a devil of the time with deliveries. I shall be keeping these at hand for just those occasions! This set includes 2 earbuds with flexible earpieces, a black clamshell case, charging cord and a downloadable App.I work with a wide variety of people who speak a number of languages. I will be using the American Spanish option most often. I just happened to order a less expensive translator set just before ordering this set and I am conflicted on which I like better.I have used both and when I tried to use this system to speak to a client, I could not get it working quickly enough. The biggest problem is in order for it to work you have to have the Bluetooth system connected and the clamshell has to be open. I ended up fumbling with the case and I had to leave it open on a counter to keep it connected. A curious someone picked up the clamshell case and closed it causing the translator to disconnect. Finding a place to put the clamshell case where it will be safe and remain open is difficult. (My other translator does not have this issue.)As for translating from English to Spanish, the App is pretty good. On this model you can choose if you want a male or female voice for most languages. I tried testing it by speaking both English and my bad Spanish. It does a pretty good job and it is quick, with some errors. There are many languages you can pull up by typing in the name or location but not Norwegian or Hmong.There are 5 different translation modes, Touch, Speaker, Free, Offline, and Photo. Each has its use. I like the speaker mode because you don’t need to wear or share the earbuds, but you still have to have the case open, and the Bluetooth connected. The touch mode is more controlled. Touch the earbud and it beeps, then you speak, taking turns. Free talk catches pretty much a whole conversation and translates it as people talk back and forth. I mentioned the Offline mode earlier. I do like the Photo mode; it can translate a whole document–with a couple errors. You need to know the language before it works.

I work with a lot of people who speak Spanish, and I wanted to make sure that if I needed something done, if they couldn’t understand my English, I could try and communicate through Spanish.These earbuds offer “real time” translation for 144 languages, but I primarily need it for 1 or 2 different languages.A big plus is the long battery time – which makes this the perfect accessory to travel with if you plan to a trip to a foreign country.They come with a USB-C charging cord – so they are easy to charge.They are lightweight and easy to put in my ears to use…however, the setup to get these to work was problematic.It took me a few times to understand that you have to keep the charging case open in order to get connectivity. And this can be inconvenient if you’re walking and need something translated and your hands are not free to hold it.When I tried to use it in a regular conversation – getting it set up so that it was seamless was problematic. You have to make sure your Bluetooth is working, and you have to keep open your charging case…not always the easiest in a sudden interaction.All-in-all, the earbuds are comfortable, but the setup time and trying to use these seamlessly is not working as well as I like them.Time will tell if I continue to use these.

These earbuds work well when simply used for audio. They are comfortable and the case is nice. Battery life is good. Connecting to the phone was simple enough and they do not drop when using. As far as translation, it is tedious. Not wanting to share an earbud with someone you don't know well means you need to use the app on the phone. Then that involves patience and a willingness from both parties. Not really something to do on the fly with a stranger on the street. So all in all, these were not exactly as expected but work well enough under the right circumstances.
