There may have been a time when premium price was justified for this type of quality probe but that time has passed. Check out the offering from Tadeto. In side by side comparison testing I did with this probe and BlueLab PENSOILPH, Tadeto did just as well at a fraction of the cost.

I ran into a faulty probe and working with the company has gone very smooth. I originally gave a bad review because Amazon wouldn't work with me for a replacement, but I contacted the company directly through their phone and had the issue resolved in no time. The probe itself is very accurate, as I use another meter to verify it.

My lawn has been thinning out so I got a soil sample from my local university (GEAUX Tigers!). I review the results and saw that the pH was in the "optimal range" @ 5.91. This didn't sound right to me, however, there was a portion of grass that was doing better than the rest. The test being a sample from various parts of the yard, mixed together, had me thinking that i had too much of the "good portion" of the yard mixed in with the soil samples i sent off. So... like any rational person would do, I bought this ridiculously expensive pH meter to confirm my suspicions. I had borrowed a friends Apera pH meter previously for curing meats and knew about their reputation in the pH metering world, so I knew if i wanted to get the most accurate tests then these were my peeps. So, I calibrated the machine... Easy peezy (I had done it once before on a friend's so this may have been cheating). Then i got to taking samples... The instructions said to dig a 2 inch hole in pre moistened soil and then stick a 4 inch spear into the ground to make a cavity to stick your tip into.. (there were multiple methods to test. This is just the method i chose) After doing a few spots, i realized that i was not really in my St. Augustine's root zone anymore. So, i used the short stubby end of the spear to make a more shallow hole that brought me to about 4 inches below grade. Low and behold, my suspicions were answered with pH readings ranging from 4.8 to 6.5!! I put little flags around the yard to indicate the diffenent pH Zones, drew a map of the yard, and filled in all the info. I now know EXACTLY which sections of the yard i need to address without messing with the whole yards pH. (and saving money on treatment products for only buying for the square footage in the problem area) The extreme price of this meter wasinstantly justified! It would be WAYYY more justifiable if the tips were interchangeable. (I'm not saying that they're not, i really don't know)The reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5, is the price. LIke, a part of me feels like i should go test my neighbors lawn and then charge him for it. I mean, he really does love his lawn, so i know he'd be be down for that. But, at the same time, the replacement tips are not much less than the whole entire box with the extra calibration sauces. So, I'll lock it in my safe until the next time that i need to check the progress of my acid grass. Happy growing!

This unit works as advertised. It does need to be recalibrated frequently but its usually close even if the cal is off. My only7 complaint is the unit does not come with a case! WTH? $190 lab grade tool doesn't have a case to store it in?My $80 Apera water Ph tester came with a nice plastic case to hold all the bits and keep the tester safe.
