I have nothing to compare this to, but every single open bottle I tested, along with 3 different vehicles, tested at 4% moisture content. Some bottles have been on my shelf for over 10 years. One of my trucks has the factory 1999 fluid in it. With that said, a new bottle did test at 0%. So it works, but after some quick research, I'm not sure I trust it. Brake fluid is hygroscopic and tests have shown that it will absorb around 1% per year. I should have well over 4% in my 1999, and less than 4% in my Wrangler.

This is a handy tester to see if your brake fluid is over the recommended 4% water content. It has easy to use buttons and the screen is easy to see. It will show you the results in a percentage, and let you know if you need to replace the fluid. You just use the attached probe end and stick it in the brake fluid reservoir. It just takes a moment for it to give you the results. It is very handy and compact. So if you happen to have multiple vehicles, you can check them all very quickly. It does have brand names preinstalled so you can select them in the menu or just test based oof of your DOT 3, 4, or 5 manually. Well worth getting so you will know if you need to flush your brake fluid of not to keep your brakes working good.

This tool tests the water content of brake fluid. This is a good indicator of how well the brake fluid working. The tool works great. I appreciate how it has a probe tip instead of being a "pen" type tester. This allows the tool to fit under some cowls where other tools won't. This tool can help sell brake flushes and will easily pay for itself with a few uses. Customers always want numbers, this gives them that.I only wish it came with somethinf other than a clamshell package for storage. A nice soft shell case would have been great. Especially because the tip of the probe is always going to be dipped in brake fluid.

Moisture is probably the most common reason for brake fluid to go bad. You can do a boil test, which is a little bit more involved, and the machine is a bit more expensive. Or you can do a moisture test with something like this, which takes a few seconds and is super easy.I don't have any complaints really, except that I've seen other moisture meters for less. However I will say this is more precise with more features than most of the less expensive moisture meters I've seen. And you can always pick up litmus paper too, for an old school low tech way to test fluid.

It does work.. But after doing some reading up on these, I found that this meter is kind of useless now that I know more about things..I tested this on 3 vehicles, a 2004 and 2005 sebring, and a 2014 jeep.. All 3 gave the same reading of 4% moisture in the fluid.. After reading up about brake fluid, I found that on average, the fluid in a car can absorb about 1% of moisture into the brake fluid every year.. Which means, in order to keep it at 3% or under, like recommended, you really need to do a full brake fluid change about every 4 years, which I am pretty sure very few people do.. So checking the moisture in any vehicle with fluid in it for over 5 years will pretty much give a guarantee that it will have over the recommended 3% max moisture in it..With that being now known, It makes this kind of pointless to check because you pretty much know the answer for most vehicles before you check it.. The main people that this will be useful for.. People who race, that will heat up their brakes more than the average person..So does it work.. Yes.. But if I would have known then, what I know now, I would have not gotten it.. Not because it is a bad device, but more because I found that it really does not tell me much that I would need to know, that I would not be able to figure out without it.. But it did tell me one thing.. Unless someone does not have the rubber gasket on the brake fluid container, a car that is 20 years on, and one that is 10 years old, both with the original fluid, both had the same 4% moisture rating, so it does not get excessively worse over time unless you have no seals in place..
