It a great value play for someone who wants a minimalist stereo setup and desires some bass.My setup is a 1986 Toyota pickup, newer Alpine deck with two 4" speakers hooked up to a 50watt x 4 Alpine Power Pack amp. Conservative $700 system with self install. It fits nicely under the bench seat with some 1/4 spacers to raise the rear part of the seat. To give you some perspective on how much bass it generates, it sounds like a bass'y pair of open air 6x9 speakers in the rear deck of a car with a large truck. It is a nice fill for Pink Floyd, Moby, or Phill Collins and Indie Folk, but is a bland dud with hair spray rock like Def Leppard or Foreigner, and I am not talking about it even being crazy loud, just your average person loud. Loud enough to overcome the wind noise with the windows down. If you like to feel the bass, this isn't it.

I'm sure I'd be very happy with it. I've loved cerwin Vaga since I was a teenager. My issue was I was sent a refurbished item and I gave it as a gift. I found out from the person I gifted it to witch was very embarrassing. I have ni idea who's at fault but it was disappointing.

I needed a small powered under seat sub for my single cab chevy that wouldn't take my storage space behind the seat or make me move my seat forward ( I am a tall guy). I researched a ton of different powered subs and after comparing reviews, specs, price points, and even talking to several companies about their offerings, (Kicker, Alpine, and at least 6-7 others) i settled on the Cerwin Vega VRAD10. As a home audio technician, I know what I am looking for as far as sound and I have always had massive sound systems in all my vehicles so I wanted the best bass I could get from a product like this. I wasnt looking for the same ground shaking bass I am used to, but something that I heard and felt inside the truck without giving up valuable space. I first looked at the Cerwin Vega VPAS10 which is a 10" powered woofer similar to the VRAD but a couple bucks cheaper. After looking at the specs, build, and speaking with Cerwin Vega, I was informed about the VRAD10. Now I am sure someone is going to complain that the woofer is actually an 8" with passive radiators and is falsely advertised BUT, if you know anything at all about speakers you would know that adding passive radiators correctly actually acts as larger cone surface in essence giving this speaker 10" total cone surface. Also, efficiently using the radiators gives much better bass response and reproduction of low frequency. The speaker seems extremely well built except the rubber mounting feet they include but honestly you can literally velcro this thing to the floor. As far as sound, well, I will say I am way more than impressed. It produces a very nice low end at a great volume. I can hear the bass outside the truck and only have the gain up half way. Now understand, this is not made to vibrate mirrors and body panels or win competitions, but i honestly feel it beats the hell out of ANY premium factory sound system with a factory sub. The sound is deep and rich and punchy as hell when it needs to be. The install is crazy easy with low level or high level speaker inputs and doesn't require welding size wire for power. I have mine installed with a Kenwood double din. Many people will love the included bass knob to turn it up when they want more bump. Its housing is plastic but has a solid feel and seems great quality. The sub itself is an aluminum housing so it should help with heat dissipation but i have yet to run it long enough to check operating temps. I also cant speak of longevity for it but I would assume if you take time to mount it where it doesnt stay running hot, either on some spacers up off the carpet or in an area where it gets some airflow, I cant see why it wouldnt last a very long time. The dimensions of this unit are small enough to fit almost anywhere. I was super impressed with the way Cerwin Vega took the time to talk to me and explain what they had to offer, that is a great start on customer service in my book. This unit may be a couple bucks more than the 10" unit, but I honestly feel its worth penny more to have this kind of sound satisfaction from a product. If you need some extra low end without the huge box and amp, dont hesitate to pulm the trigger on this one.
