Slung a pair of these on (f and r specific) and they seem great! Much faster rolling than the Maxxis Minions that had come stock and which were overkill frankly for my more trail like riding. Though have to say the Kryptos would still give me confidence in the gnarlier sections. Fingers crossed their longevity equals initial impressions.Oh, they look cool too! 😎

I grabbed a set of these to replace some Maxis Ikon 29s on my Marlin 7. The Ikons were carryover from the previous owner. Obviously, these are two very different tires, so it is like comparing apples to oranges. If I were using the bike on light trails only the Ikons were a great tire. They were decently lightweight for my purposes (it is a Marlin after all) and fast, BUT with the kind of trails that I typically ride, the lack of pronounced tread was killing me. I had zero confidence in the turns, and I was constantly slipping on the climbs. I looked hard at the Maxxis Minions when these caught my eye.Continental has a great product here. Right out of the very well packaged box, you could see the quality in the build. Be sure you go with the different front and rear, and double check to make sure you’re putting them on right room! I didn’t mix up front to back, but I got a little too excited and mounted one of them backwards.I had a little bit of issue getting the tires to seat properly (btw I’m still running tubes on the bike) but ultimately I got them on and, as you can see from the pictures, they look great. By the way, these are a 2.4, and they do barely squeeze in on the back, at the bottom bracket seat stay connecting point. There’s plenty of room under the front forks and on the top side of the seat stay. These tires are quite a bit heavier than the Ikon, but my initial impressions on my first quick ride, in mixed wet and dry conditions with sand, pine needles, leaves, and plenty of roots, immediately justified the purchase. Slippage on climbs is almost totally gone. Maybe once or twice I spun out a little bit on a root, but that’s just me putting too much torque down on the climb. On the downhill, I found myself much more confident and cornering much lower and tighter. I cannot say that these are better or worse than the comparable Maxxis set, but I’m looking forward to many miles of rides out of them. The bottom line is, if you’re even considering this set then you’re looking for a decently aggressive tire that is comparable to other top name brands on the market. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
