This ‘White Butterfly’ Knitting Kit by ‘DesignEtte’ is classed as level 3-intermediate, has been designed by Camilla Ette Godfredsen and is something quite special. I’d call myself a skilled knitter having been knitting for nigh on sixty-five years but even so I don’t want to start this project until I completely understand the pattern and know exactly how to do the butterfly stitch. The kit comprises 14 balls of yarn that have been carefully wrapped in black tissue paper and placed inside the special kit box. The knitting pattern gives instructions for the ‘White Butterfly’ design plus there’s a picture of ‘Blue Lagoon’ should you wish to purchase separately the yarn needed for this design. There’s an envelope containing 7 Pearl buttons and a small tag for stitching onto the finished garment.I’m surprised a needle hasn’t been included in the kit as not everybody has a supply of circular needles and for the price I’d have expected one.The yarn I’ve chosen is Nezumi, a pretty grey colour dotted with tiny sequins that sparkle in the light, and although described as raw silk it’s actually 95% cotton and 5% polyester. As recommended I’m going to watch the video, study the pattern in depth, then I’ll start knitting which I’m really looking forward to.

This kit is a must for that special knitter. My friend is an avid knitter, loves the finer things in life and was ecstatic when she saw this kit, saying that the yarn was some of the prettiest she had ever seen. She is an experienced practicioner, so was not daunted by the butterfly stitch, but also said that the instructions and on line video that is available would help a less experienced person to complete the project with ease. Please note that the needles are not included in the kit but are readily available on line or from the local haberdasheries. However, six fabulous pearl buttons are included, as is a woven label to stitch into the completed project. The completed project is a very stylish bolero type top that could be worn with anything from smart jeans to a full length evening skirt.AT £66.75 this is not a cheap option but the result is well worth the outlay.

DesignEtte Knitting Kit: What a lovely gift this would make for a keen knitter, it comes nicely boxed and internally wrapped with tissue paper to protect the beautiful yarn. I’d feel very spoilt if I received this as a pressie! I haven’t even started the knit as yet but as I’m a bit slow and slightly clunky when it comes to knitting skills, thought I’d review the kit and come back to comment on the knit at some point in the future - probably some months!.The kit reckons to provide sufficient yarn for the pattern & garment size you’ve chosen. I mistakenly presumed it included the correct needles also - it doesn’t (my mistake but it does require circular 4&5 mm 80cm length for the XL 2/3) and it clearly shows what’s included within the kit which is the yarn, pattern, the lovely Pearl buttons as well as a little designer label to stitch into the completed article. The skill level is labelled as 3, so some knitting skills required but no need to be an expert. A QR code is provided to offer a tutorial of the “Butterfly Stitch”, however there is also a fairly good YouTube video showing you how to knit down and pick up the stitches which create the pattern - for me this will take a bit of pre-practice but looks doable.I’ve given this 4 stars as I’m quite confused about the yarn provided, it’s beautiful, the Nezumi is a light pearlescent grey with tiny shiny sequins woven in which will glisten when made up, its got a luxurious, delicate feel but it’s a sturdy quality material, however it states at several points through the description that it’s raw silk, but the data on the pattern and the yarn itself states it’s 95% cotton and 5% polyester. I looked up the actual named yarn, as while supposedly enough us provided I didn’t want to start the project only to find I required additional yarn, what I found on-line is actually raw silk. So a great dilemma as to whether the additional yarn would match that provided? I’ll ask the question to manufacturers.(NB. Later addition: Although I’d not received any direct response regarding the material used to make the yarn, I’ve noted that the info has been changed to correctly reflect the fact it’s a 95% cotton/5%polyester mix and not raw silk as previously stated, although the header still states it’s raw silk…)Yarn matching aside, the pattern is pretty and looks more complex than I think it is and I would be proud to produce the sample in the lovely yarns provided. It seems a bit pricey but having seen the price of the separate yarn skeins I think it probably works out about right. Look forward to updating once the projects completed.

This is a beautifully packaged item. It contains almost everything needed to make a small top - the yarn and the pattern, but no needles. that is incredibly fine and threaded with sequins. It would be nice if the product details on here said what size needles were needed so you could buy them with the kit. The yarn is gorgeous, very fine and threaded with sequins. The yarn is used double, and the sequins do make it a bit fiddly at times. The pattern instructions are not the most easy to use, but there are links to videos to help, or general youtube videos to help (e.g. the pattern calls for a butterfly stitch but does not explain how to do a butterfly stitch at all). Lovely yarn, and a nice top. Each kit will make multiple sizes, I have the xs/s/m - but there seems to be a huge difference in the finished product dimensions between each size. The bust measurement (finished product) for S is 87.5cm, then for S, it is 114cm - my bust measures in at exactly 87cm, so feel I should make the but that feels like it will be way too wide once complete. The yarn is beautiful, and the pattern is very pretty.*******UPDATE******I have spent hours on this pattern and it is full of mistakes and I do not believe the pattern has been tried out in all the sizes. I did decide to make the size S, but the pattern is not written for that size. The pattern suggests you cast on 171 stitches for Size S (cardigan is made in one piece). I have carefully completed the bottom section, and started on the right front. The right front is worked over 36 stitches - and you can see that I have now completed this in the photo. The back is then worked over the centre 59 stitches. So having started the back, it is apparent that instead of having 36 stitches remaining for the left front, I have 76 stitches remaining (171 - 36 - 59). So, I could make the back wider (by 40 stitches), which of course will leave the back wider than the front - or I could undo the whole lot back down the last 30 rows, and make each front section 46 stitches wide, leaving the back section 79 - WHICH I AM NOT GOING TO DO, as I have lost any enthusiasm for this garment, and I have no confidence that there are no further errors in the pattern. This is clearly not the only error in the pattern - but this one is not easily fixed without a huge amount of rework.. DO NOT BUY THIS KIT unless you want 8 tiny balls of very pretty yarn that you could probably buy for the fraction of the cost elsewhere.

This kit comes with the yarn and buttons and it's beautifully presented in a box. There is also a pattern for the butterfly shrug. This it's definitely an intermediate pattern which is too complex for me. Therefore I will use the lovely lace pattern to make a simple scarf instead. There is also a sweater pattern Included which uses a different yarn. The yarn is luxurious this would make a lovely gift.
