This is just what i was after, unlike a glass thermometer this one takes a faster reading, making it ideal for water changes or quick checks of aquarium water temperature. I have two fish tanks, a nano and a bigger one i'm currently in the process of setting up. This thermometer appears accurate enough to give me a good idea of temperature and ensures i can quickly match the fresh water i add to the aquariums temperature during water changes so as not to shock the fish.I've had it in water multiple times and it's not let me down. When it's not under water i rest it on a shelf and it monitors room temperature. It would be nice if it had an off switch but it doesn't, the only way would be taking the battery out but i don't bother with this and the battery life so far is going strong after over a week of having it on all the time. Mine actually came with two batteries out the box which was nice.Overall i'm very happy to have this thermometer, it has proven very useful.

The display, although a good size, was barely visible and often just went blank unless you tapped it to encourage it to work. Even then not all the lcd bars worked making it hard to read. We tried several set of batteries but had the same experience, so not a power issue.Also, it wasn’t accurate. We put it into our home fridge to test at 4 degrees and it consistently read 3-5 degrees too high. We bought it for our campervan fridge but it just didn’t work. It wasn’t expensive in the grand scheme of things, so we just chucked it away and found another one.

Despite the small display panel, it's clear & easy to read, due to the contrast between the numerals & the background, certainly clearer than two other digital thermometers that I have, both of which have larger displays. It's possibly more accurate than the other two as well, they give readings to within 1.5°C of each other, this unit gives a reading that in the middle of the other two (I sat them all together for a couple of days for test purposes).There's a metre long cable between the base unit & the probe, allowing one to be where you need the reading from & the other where you can read it, say in the fridge, but without having to open the fridge.The display is clearly meant to sit in a housing, it's got clips built into the frame, maybe fridges have a standard size mount, mine doesn't, so it'd have been good if they'd included some form of mount, but that's my only niggle with this.Runs on an LR44 battery, they provide two, so you've got a spare... Quite sure I'll have misplaced it by the time the 1st one runs flat, but the less clumsy/forgetful among you have this as a backup.No real issue, seems a urate, 5 stars.
