Full control of the features of this device requires software available only for Windows and MacOS. Under Linux, the device works, but it is impossible to adjust the LED lights. The lights are always on at full power, giving massive reflections from smooth surfaces. Polarizer adjustment does not eliminate this problem. The Python module independently developed by a customer to control LEDs on Dino-Lite devices does not work for this model. The Python library created by the manufacturer also only works under Windows. One of the main advantages of Python is cross-platform compatibility between Windows and Linux, which the manufacturer ignored.Looking through history of customer issues and FAQs, it appears the manufacturer has stubbornly refused to add a simple hardware power switch for the LEDs for years. Instead, they stick to software control. They also do not make any effort to support Linux, despite widespread adoption of Linux in science and engineering development. I wanted to use this device, because it is high quality. However, the manufacturer's choices forced me to return it. Very disappointing.

Like the other reviewer, we also bought this for inspecting PCB assemblies (or, rather, specific components on them). We have a need to inspect the sides of components, which means looking at the board surface at an extreme oblique angle. For this application, the cap (which is designed to automatically place a plane parallel to the objective lens at the correct focal depth at 200x zoom) got in the way and prevented using much more than about 40x magnification. Now, I cut this cap off and we can take photos of mounted components from an end-on view at maximum magnification. That being said, if this sounds like your application, I would look at the models which feature a removable cap so you don't find yourself permanently modifying your new digital microscope.
