As a retired professional video producer I was a little surprised when I found my newly purchased and relatively expensive video camera did not come with a battery charger so the only way to recharge batteries was in the camera itself. The obvious limitation being that when I need my second battery to continue recording I cannot recharge the dead battery. Also the camera needs a special lead for charging. Something else to remember to carry when I already have a few usb options with me. Realistically the need for this charger is probably quite rare but I come from a background where an hour was a really good battery life so a day's recording required either a lot of batteries or a means of recharging in the field so don't want to be caught out with a good shot but no battery power to record it.Whether or not this charger becomes essential, it is still quite useful. It's a lot neater way of charging than having the camera on my desk and I can charge two batteries at the same time. As it is a usb charger it can not only use any of my USB mains chargers but will charge on the go from my car with a USB adapter in the car socket (can't call it a cigarette lighter these days). It is small and thin so takes up little space in a camera bag.The charger itself seems well made for the price and comes with a USB to micro USB cable (yet another for the stock). Much of my kit these days uses the newer USB-C charger connection and this also works OK with an adapter or a dedicated USB-C to micro USB cable. There are charging lamps for each channel and once shown fully charged my camera reports a fully charged battery.For years I have use similar chargers to this for DSLR, action and compact cameras and have never had any problems with them or the use of compatible batteries so don't expect any problems with this little charger.I find the reviews of others helpful so if this helps you please click the "helpful" button so I know I am not wasting my time typing.
