I've got a couple of different ice ball makers, as I love them in my whiskey cocktails and love to serve them to guests with their drink as well. I have one clear ice ball maker that makes 2 at a time, but it is SO big and it takes up too much room in the freezer. This one is a much smaller footprint and hence I usually have it making a cube in my freezer. It makes a cube pretty well. Sometimes it is perfect and sometimes has just a slight bit of cloud. But it's close enough to perfectly clear for me and super easy to use.

"The ZZ03 Clear Ice Cube Maker delivers on its promise of crafting stunning, crystal-clear 2.5" ice balls, perfect for elevating any whiskey, cocktail, or bourbon experience. The stainless steel construction exudes quality, and the compact design fits neatly in most freezers. The process itself is straightforward, and the results are undeniably impressive. Using reverse osmosis filtered water is key to achieving that pristine clarity, and while I noticed a few unique, almost artistic lines within the ice, it actually adds a touch of character. The ice balls fit perfectly in a standard whiskey glass, providing a slow-melting, visually appealing chill. However, there's a trade-off. The water that freezes in the bottom of the steel canister becomes a bit of a nuisance. It's not easily removed, requiring a dose of hot water to loosen it, which inevitably leads to wasted water. While this is a minor inconvenience, it's worth noting.Ultimately, the ZZ03 Clear Ice Cube Maker excels at producing beautiful, clear ice balls. If you're willing to contend with a bit of wasted water to achieve that perfect, slow-melting sphere, this ice maker is a worthy investment. It's a testament to the idea that sometimes, a little compromise is necessary to achieve a truly exceptional result."

Its too small to make clear ice. You need space for the bubbles to settle. It tells you to use tap or mineral water for best results, but that didn't help at all. I have a larger two ball maker (the black box shown in this items description) and I bought this thinking it would save space. But you need the larger container to trap the bubbles. Its a poor design - you need a taller cup. You can see the comparison of the ice balls from both and its night and day. BOTH USE THE SAME WATER.

I have to say I was a little bit skeptical about this because I've seen some of these in the past and they produce cloudy and unappealing looking ice balls or big cubes.I'm happy to report this one does the job and it's not a whole lot of fuss except for when you're trying to fill the mold you have to be having it under a faucet with a very light trickle of water and then wait for it to top off. So, it takes about 30 seconds or more to fill the mold.Getting the ice ball out requires you to run the stainless steel enclosure under warm water until you can pull the mold out and then it's an easy task to split it apart. The ball comes out with a little bit of cloudiness on it but once you put it in the glass with whiskey that disappears immediately. See the picture.

If you're a cocktail or whiskey enthusiast like me, you know the importance of a good ice cube or sphere to slow dilution. While these molds work great, there’s nothing quite like clear ice for a photogenic cocktail. I was pleasantly surprised that, after testing, the spheres actually came out crystal clear! Here are some helpful tips:Follow the instruction pamphlet inside the box, not the printed instructions on the box itself. I initially used distilled water as suggested on the packaging, but the clarity wasn’t great. After reading the pamphlet, I learned that tap or mineral water works best—and it made a huge difference! When placing the mold back into the water cup, let gravity do the work before pressing down firmly. This prevents air bubbles and ensures better clarity. Also, place something underneath, as a bit of water will spill.Overall, I’m impressed with these molds and highly recommend them for anyone who enjoys making quality cocktails at home!
