Great book, holding up well. Great pictures and good examples. Only thing is the organization of the info is weak.

Ok Blood Bowl is a game that I have owned since way back in the 80's with the first edition along with it's cardboard counter teams rather than the models. I have had a copy of every edition since.First I'll start with this editions strong points. It's had a make over which I feel fits in far more with the theme of the game rather than the previous 2016 edition which came across as dark and far more murkier. This edition is way more colourful and that is mirrored with the art style. More razzle dazzle NFL style which for me is an improvement. I also found the rules to be better laid out than the previous edition with rules definitions being easier to locate in this book. The paper feels like great quality and the binding appears to be top notch with a handy ribbon for you to mark your page. All in all the production values are off the scale which GW good at.So, are the rules that different and is the game any good? The rules are pretty much the same from what I have seen. A few tweaks have been brought in, for example Throwing has had it's procedure tightened up to make more logical sense. There is no great overhaul here. Things are mostly worded better or tweaked to run smoother. Most of the teams have very minor changes which on the face of it don't seem to earth shattering. But on closure inspection will mean they function a fair bit better or worse during the game. Humans for example seem to be a viable team choice for league play as they can do most things now well enough now, rather than the old reality which seemed to be that they were just not quite good enough at anything to make an impact. Dark Elves are still great, but not quite the power house they were. Wood Elves remain deadly, but you will need to more on the ball using them than before. So finishing on the bad points. Some rules are quite clunky like Ork Animosity which works out that some positions within the team don't like other positions so on a roll of 1 won't pass to them. It's not game breaking, but I can foresee it being forgotten often during a game and trying to explain it to a new player would most likely put them off. I won't be using it myself and won't be bothered if opponents want to drop it.Throwing the ball is still the games main weak point. If blocking got an overhaul 30 years ago with the block dice which offer a super fast way of determining the result without the need of + or - modifiers (SNORE). And it also gave multiple different outcomes rather than a simplistic pass or fail, I can't understand why throwing is still a mega dull modified 2 rolls on a six sided dice. Game design has moved on a hell of a lot since the 1980's. If throwing had some mechanic more in the vein of blocking, the game would not only be more exciting, but would make more sense as a sport theme. In an NFL game the pass can result in various different outcomes even if the receiver catches the ball, such as an almighty salmon leap followed by a face plant in the dirt. If a simple block can result in 5 different outcomes, I don't see why the passing game can't also. Also the make up of play is a bit of a mess still. The game itself doesn't actually stand up as any form of sport other than a bit of fighting over a ball. It's not rugby and it's not the NFL which is a shame. The second edition (around 1990) did have optional rules to include Downs like the NFL to gain squares and push your line of scrimmage nearer towards your opponent. I can't see why something like this has not been included all these years later as the game is themed around sport after all rather than the overly simplistic kick, catch then run/throw to the end zone.Oh well, I love the theme, but I'm still waiting for the game to deliver.
