Not bad at all except coins would fall because of the plastic pockets

My 6 year old nephew has trouble grasping the concept of saving for those “important purchases” in his young life, so I’ve been looking for a better way to encourage him than simply dropping coins (and notes!) into his money box each week.I ordered this binder and pockets because I wanted a fun and exciting way to encourage him to save some personal spending money for his summer holiday.The clear vinyl makes it very easy for my nephew to see what notes and coins are contained in each numbered pocket. Each week he diligently puts a percentage of his accumulated pocket money from various relatives and earnings from the little “chores” he does around the house (tidying his bedroom, making his bed, popping his undies into the laundry basket and carrying the recyclables to the recycling bin), into a pocket and makes a note of the value of that pocket; this is also teaching him how to add up the various currency denominations in each pocket.As our joint project is progressing, he’s keeping a tally of the total and is becoming quite excited at how much he will have accumulated by the time he goes on holiday.The sturdy zipper around the edge of the binder makes sure my nephew’s hard earned funds remain secure in their binder as he carries it to and from the “bookkeeping department” of my dining table to the “safety vault” of his own dedicated space on my bookcase.Once my nephew has depleted his savings for his holiday, I will be encouraging him to continue our project to save up for his next big purchase. If he fills every one of the 100 pockets and still hasn’t spent it, then I will encourage him to deposit all or some of it into his savings bank account and start over. This will also teach him about reserve accounting - an important thing to know if one day, he wants to run his own business!I think this is an excellent way of teaching children how saving works, unlike squirrelling their hard earned funds away in a money box or in a faceless bank account, they can quite clearly see that “little and often” soon adds up to a sizable amount as time goes by. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who has a savings goal, be they young or old!

The folder itself is great quality, and sturdy. The “envelopes” as they call them are just poly pockets but it looks exactly like it does in the picture. Which is why I went for this particular one with a zip, so if coins do fall out of the pockets, they wont get lost. However I didn’t receive a pen with it, so was a little disappointed with that.

I don’t keep cash everyone uses there card now but I make it my point to take cash out while walking the dog to save for my holiday

I like the idea of it, it is very good that it has a zipper so it is even more safe and nothing can fall out just a minus is that the coins can fall out so you have to be careful to not lay it flat down as the coins can mix with each other

I am really happy with this envelope saving challenge as it will encourage you to save. Love the pen that comes with and the fact that you can mark and erase it to re-use again.
