I got this for my son because he was recruited for football but they didn't have equipment ready for him and he still wanted to participate a little and I figured a little protection was better than nothing.I got the XL because he's a big boy (hence the recruitment) and it fits him really well.This is not 100% protection because it does not protect the top of your head but the protection around the edges is surprisingly strong.I teach winterguard and I could see how this could be useful when learning new tricks as well and since it doesn't cover the top of your head you won't get hot as quickly because that sport involves a lot of cardio. Since foreheads are especially vulnerable with that type of equipment this could help a lot.

This is totally my fault because I saw this in store last week and it said it had a helmet rating on the tag so I assumed it went under a helmet somehow. So I ordered it on here and now that I have it and did some digging all of the claims about it having a helmet rating are for this brands helmet shell that goes over the helmet. I realize I did make a mistake myself, but it’s also misleading to blur a helmet rating on something that has nothing to do with an actual helmet. I got this for my son whom is playing football currently, but now I realized i can’t actually use it for that.That being said, this will be handy for when my son plays soccer and flag football. It will keep his hair out of his eyes and off his forehead, as well as cut down on the sweat. It does have some padding on it which seams like it will help a bit with protection, but obviously not at all as much as a helmet. So it is still useful, but not quite what I was expecting.

These are comfortable, seem to provide decent protection, but are hot in warm weather. They are a tad heavy, but feel solid. This might help with head protection. I would recommend them for use in casual, non-contact sports, in cooler weather

My niece plays field hockey and I feel much better having her wear this while she plays.

It does what is described. Did not like the fact that no head size was included until I received the product.
