I use the Sport Ascender to give my hands a break when tree climbing. Just grabbing onto the rope would cause joint pain in my hands. Using the ascender gives me more to grab onto and I don't have to grip the rope as hard since the device does that for you. Your hand just rest on the ascender bottom "shelf" to steady you as you climb.I have to agree with the other review about the grip being too small, especially with gloves, it seems they didn't consider that someone might be using it while wearing gloves. Instead of the petite and small grip it should be sent with medium and large.My 11.7 rope worked perfectly, any smaller or bigger it might be a little loose or too tight.I order the left hand version, but I didn't have any trouble using it with my right hand, the only difference is you just have to reach for the lever to release the rope a little more.

SRT (Single Rope Technique) - frog system for tree entry this is the perfect assender to use. It is compact, light, easy to install and locks onto the rope.
