The LEE Elements VND Filter 2 to 5 Stops is a versatile and high-quality filter for photographers and videographers. This filter allows you to control the amount of light entering your lens, which can be especially useful in bright light conditions or when you want to create a certain look in your photographs or videos. One of the standout features of this VND filter is its ability to provide 2 to 5 stops of light reduction. This range of control makes it easy to achieve the desired level of light reduction, whether you want to capture a softer, more even exposure or create a more dramatic look in your images. The filter itself is also well-made and durable. It is constructed from high-quality optical glass and features a multi-layer coating that reduces reflections and improves image clarity. This means that you can use the filter with confidence, knowing that it will not degrade the quality of your images. The VND filter is also easy to use and compatible with a wide range of lens sizes. It has a standard screw-in design that makes it easy to attach and remove from your lens, and it comes with a sturdy case for safe storage and transport. In conclusion, the LEE Elements VND Filter 2 to 5 Stops is an excellent choice for photographers and videographers looking for a versatile and high-quality filter for controlling the amount of light entering their lens. With its range of light reduction, high-quality construction, and ease of use, this filter is definitely worth considering for your photography or videography kit.

I use ND filters to allow me to take long exposures with moving subjects. This lets you blur moving water for example and gives that ethereal effect of water looking like smoke on a waterfall. The problem has always been having to carry a pack of them in your bag just to get the appropriate level of light attenuation. The solution looked to be variable ND filters. These work by having 2 polarising filters that you can rotate in a mount, as the polarisation goes out of synchronisation, more and more light is blocked. The issue I had with all the options i tried previously was that as you got to a certain point, the optical effect resulted in a dark cross on your image and there was vignetting. I felt therefore that it was a great idea, but there were too many issues so went back to carrying a pack of square ND filters around. With this in mind I was intrigued by the offering from Lee filters. I've admired this brand for some time, but they are comparitively expensive. That cost coupled with their expertise in lens and filter technology seems to have come from research and development into a product that really does work. The filter is supplied in a robust case which does protect the filters really well. It has a limiter preventing over rotation of the filter elements and I find it requireds very little movement to change the settings. The glass quality is excellent and I have seen no aberration in images when in use. There is a hint of vignetting when using a very wide angle lens (15mm on a full frame DSLR camera), but this is only when the filter is stopped down to its maximum setting. An excellent piece of kit which has now replaced the pack of square ND filters in my camera bag. Yes it is expensive, but the results do justify the price.

This Variable Neutral Density (VND) filter arrived well packed in a nice looking, Lee Filters branded cardboard box, that would be more than suitable should you be wishing to give it as a gift. The filter I am reviewing has a diameter of 77mm, but there is no reason to believe any of the other sizes would be any different.Lee Filters (owned by Panavision) have always had an excellent reputation, so I was interested to see how their circular filters held up in comparison to the reputation of their larger, squarer, cousins. As you would expect from the Lee Filter brand, the build quality is excellent. The filter feels extremely well engineered and like it will last a long time. It screwed on and off my lenses and step up/down rings very smoothly and without ever needing a second try in order to rethread it. The knurled edging makes the filter easy to grip. There’s a different style of knurling on the half of the filter that rotates, which makes it easy to differentiate between the two. The rotation mechanism was nice and smooth. There are markings on the outer rim to let you know how many stops of exposure reduction you have the filter set to (2 to 5) .Disappointingly, there is no front facing thread, so you can not attach other filters or a lens cap to the filter. In use, the optical quality is excellent. There was no difference in the clarity of the image, and no discernible colour shift that I could detect. Nor did I experience the dreaded ‘X’ pattern that afflicts some variable ND filters. The only slight negative was I did occasionally notice a little vignetting at ND32 (5 stops) when using my wide angle lens and shooting into the light. In conclusion this is a very nice, well made, high quality filter. There is no getting passed the fact that it is expensive, however it should be noted that you are effectively getting four extremely good quality ND filters (ND4, ND8, ND16, ND32) for this price. So for those who can afford it, and need a very good quality Neutral Density filter, and want to save some money over buying individual filters, and/or want the convenience of carrying just one variable ND filter instead of four, then I can highly recommend it.The only thing that prevents me giving it 5 stars is the very slight vignetting I experienced. If I could, I would give this 4.5 stars, as it seems harsh to knock a full star off for this, given that I only experienced it at ND32 (5 stops), and then only on wide angle lenses in very specific lighting conditions. However, given the price of this filter, it would also be wrong to just forgive it and give it the full 5 stars, so 4 stars it is.~ Amazon asked me to review this product and to give my honest opinion about it. That’s what I have set out to do, so I hope you found it helpful. ~

This is a neutral density filter which reduces the amount of light entering your lens with no quality loss. Why would you do that? Well it allows you to achieve low shutter speeds and get those wonderful silky water effects you see in pro photos. Lee Filters (a Panavision company)are very high quality products and you do pay for this but are they worth it? Initial impression is the black carry case is well designed with curved corners which should protect the product and slide easily into pockets. I did find the fastening clip very stiff to open but once inside I see the case is nicely lined with fine protective foam. The filter is pleasing to hold and appears to be very well engineered with the outer ring having 5 knurled sections and the inner ring is etched virtually continuously. The numbered scale is cleverly repeated on both sides of the filter though I would have liked it even better if it clicked into each position at each number. The results are excellent and even though other reports say there may be slight vignetting at some focal lengths, I found no evidence of this. The range of 2 to 5 stops will suit most uses and it saves carrying multiple filters around.Pros: superbly engineered, knurled rings a delight, positive screw thread, excellent results.Cons: case clip awkward, no clicks at each positionOverall, I’m pleased and impressed with the results I achieved when using this filter, so despite my minor quibbles, I would happily recommend this product. I would rate it 9/10, which equates to 5x Amazon stars.

The Lee Elements circular screw on filters are very high-quality professional lens filters. Across the range you get excellent consistent filter effects across the frame. The build feels excellent; they screw onto (and more importantly off) my canon and sigma lenses without issue. In the box Lee include the filter, a hard padded plastic case and a Lee Panavision microfibre cleaning cloth. Having tested the entire series, I have also found they don’t impart significant colour casts; and have similar colour casts across the filters if you need to change them. I tested them out and about in the city; and in the studio with a stabilised LED light at 5700k.The Lee 2-5 Stop Variable ND Filter arrived spotless as you would expect in its hard padded carrying case. My filter was the 82mm version as several my lenses are 82mm. I took the VND filters out at night to compare them to the big and little stoppers with the wheel in Leicester city centre. I found it easy the VND onto my Sigma 24-105 lens. Attaching them is easy thanks to the deep knurling around the filter; this also makes it easy to adjust the variable nature of the ND. Unlike cheaper VND’s I have tried in the past; lee have locked you off to only using it in the published range. It has clear markings for the stop you are at – though the variation in the stops differs – you have a lot more control between 2 and 3 than 4 and 5. It is a chunky filter about ½ cm deep. There was some vignetting at 16mm, especially at the higher stops. In the studio I tested with a canon R5 to see if I could get the dreaded patterns to come out in the image’s variation around the ring. I will spare a set of off-white photos; and just say that at higher stops the corners were vignetting slightly – nothing that lightroom couldn’t fix in 2 clicks. There was no patterning in the images at any stop level. What was staggering is 10 test photos between 2 and 5 stops all measured the same colour temperature at 4 points on the image. That is fantastic performance; significantly better than any variable ND I have tried before. The view of the wheel is as taken from the camera; at 6 on the dial; the lens is at 24mm. The exposure was 3 minutes. The only thing I did with the image is click Auto in lightroom. There is no colour correction; the colours with the filter are excellent; and you can see the colour in the image is even all over.Overall mi really blown away by all the elements filters; I have only really tried cheaper variable NDs in the past (I used square filters till recently and variable NDs weren’t really a thing.) You can feel the higher quality of the filter when you hold it compared to low and mid-market screw in filters. When you take photos and don’t need to spend 30 minutes removing a magenta cast from all the images you can see why it’s worth spending this on a filter for a professional.
