The knock off version of this tool accessory will break. The treated steel of the Makita brand will last many seasons. I use it with my LXT 18X2 Earth Auger and it tears through soil with ease. Theirs an impulse to save money on these sorts of seemingly minor accessories but it’s not a smart decision, pony up for the real thing first so you can get the job done. It holds up to the torque of even a 8” auger blade with ease.

Bien adapté pour la tarière Makita et sa rallonge. Cette pièce est solide et elle est en un seul morceau contrairement à la compétition. Alliage de métal solide et résistant aux forces de torsion.

I need to do a major fence installation on my property, and decided to use an auger drill bit instead of the post hole digger I've used in the past. I have to install a couple of dozen post, so I made the investment in the proper tools. I already had several heavy duty drills, and didn't want to invest in a dedicated auger drill, and wanted to be able to use one of my drills instead. Purchasing a heavy duty auger drill bit with a drill bit adapter seemed the best option for my needs.I purchased a Makita 6" auger bit, and the Makita brand adapter, pictured on the right. I also purchased a generic drill bit adapter at one quarter the price of the Makita, pictured on the left. The advantages of the Makita are that it is made from one solid piece of steel vs. the two piece screw on insert of the one on the left. The insert on the Makita is also heftier making it less likely to bend or break as well as not coming loose when reversing the direction of the drill. The downsides of the Makita besides the price are 1) it doesn't fit as snugly into the auger bit as the cheaper adapter, and 2) it doesn't have the collar that stops the hole in the adapter at a level aligned with the hole in the auger bit. Not that it's that big of a deal, but it adds a little extra work to keep the adapter at the right alignment with the auger bit.The advantages of the generic adapter are 1) clearly the price, 2) a tighter inside the auger bit, and 3) more easily aligned with the auger bit hole. Additionally, I did not experience any loosing of the adapter components when I reversed the direction as was mentioned in the product description. This makes sense in that the torque associated with drilling into the earth is much greater than when you are reversing it to pull it out of the ground. Other reviews of the generic adapter also indicated if you use it a lot it might fail. I've only used it to drill 2 test holes, one into an area with thick roots, and no problem so far. Seems to work well, just need to go more slowly through heavily rooted ground.Overall, I would recommend the generic version over the Makita because of the advantages it has over the Makita, and for one quarter the price you can buy 4 if it tends to fail more easily than the Makita,
