Ein schönes Gerät das tut was es soll. Leider zu den Mitbewebern etwas schwergängig. Bei Seilen ab dem Durchmesser 9,8 muss man mit Umlenkung oder Oom richtig arbeiten. Auch ist es zum ablassen nicht schön ergonomisch geformt.

Very smooth. Smoother and easier to use than a megajul. Works on the same principle at the megajul. Only downside is you cannot double rope rappel.

I'm brand new to climbing and wanted to work on practicing belaying with my bf, but I wanted something with assisted breaking to be on the safe side. I was a little dubious about paying so much for a grigri when there were so many other options for assisted breaking. I watched a lot of review and comparison videos and I decided to go with the Mammut Smarter because it seemed basic enough and I loved the color (probably not the best reason but it matches my harness!) I've been really impressed with it so far and I'm happy with the purchase. I did a lot of playing around with it but even for me, who's never belayed before, it was very intuitive to use after watching a couple videos. The assisted breaking also works very well and even when I wasn't paying attention and my boyfriend "tested me" by falling from the first foothold on a wall, it locked up right away. I've only been using it on top rope so I can't speak too well about feeding out rope for lead, but it seems to work well when I was playing around with it. The Smarter attachment does seem to do its job in keeping people from holding the break line parallel to the climber's line and the breaking not working, so that's a nice feature. It doesn't hinder use at all from what I can tell, so I'll probably just keep that on.I'd really recommend this belay device, the set is half the cost of grigri+s (which don't include the carabiner, I believe), which is great for me. It's really easy to get used to and use, even for a beginner like me.
