A compact phone with basic 2G GSM functions that's unlocked and ready to go.This is a nice smallish festival/holiday phone that's quite slim, so takes up very little room. I think it'd also suit a grandparent who might prefer a simple to operate mobile of a type they're familiar with. 2G is a basic service by today's standards, but a lot of people still really like these basic phones which provide voice calls, text messaging, and basic data services. This means that these phones have incredible battery life, so you can charge one up and take a long weekend break or a full three or four day festival without the need to recharge it. If you're trying to cut down on your phone time but still need the basics, this is perfect for a bit of tech cold-turkey!Unlike the 3G network, 2G is still around in many countries, including the UK. 3G was wrapped up in the UK and many other countries in 2024, with O2 planning to switch off in 2025. 2G however, doesn't have a switch-off date until the start of 2033, though this varies from country to country. If you're intending to use this abroad it's worth checking that your intended country supports 2G, as the majority of providers in countries such as Australia, Canada, the US, and Japan, have already closed it down.It does describe itself as large buttons, which I wouldn't really say was the case; they seem pretty standard mobile buttons to me, and of the same size as an older phone that own. The screen is small but colourful and sharp, and big enough for this type of phone--though if you need glasses like me, you're going to have to wear them to see anything on this screen! The keys are well marked though, and very easy to see.In use the volume was sharp and strong enough at the 3/4 mark to be clearly heard. The phone does have a standard 3.5mm earphone jack for the radio, which will save on power rather than use the phone speaker.Functions that you get on this type of festival phone include an FM radio, a calculator, an alarm clock, and hands-free, and speed-dial functions so all the basics are covered. It charges via USB-C to USB-A and has a desktop charging cradle, along with a charger, plus instructions. The instructions are a bit confusing, as they always are with phones, in my experience. All in all I'd say that it's comfy in the hand, and simple and easy to use, while feeling very solid and sturdy. If you're looking for a simple but bombproof festival phone then this might be worth considering.
