I bought this to find metal in reclaimed wood. It "sorta" works. Problem is, if you move it fast, it false detects. You can only move this over the wood at a rate which takes about a minute to scan an 8 foot board. And useless for finding nails that you drop in the grass.

This stuff works as advertised. I removed old nails from 100 years old barn wood.

I reclaim a lot of wood for my home shop that I make furniture out of. Much of it has hidden bits of metal that tear chunks out of my jointer and thickness planer. Of the many I have owned, this one is by far the best of them!

I'm very impressed with this little unit. I use it on logs before we mill them in a portable band saw. The first time I got it out, we found a nail. My sawyer friend saved a blade and I saved myself $25 (his charge for hitting a nail). The rest of the logs we were sawing had no nails, and the unit didn't give any false positives.I have two friends who like to mess with reclaimed lumber. Both borrowed my new toy and both loved it. I bet I made a few sales for the company!!My ONLY complaint, and I don't know if there is much you can do about it, is that, with such a large wand, pinpointing the exact location of a nail isn't super easy. The signal goes off, but if the nail is obscured, its a little tough to figure out where the nail is. That might be the same way with any detector, I don't know, I don't have much to compare it to. However, with a little patience, I figured out how to minimize the area I had to gouge out to find the nail. One of those friends said he found a nail over an inch deep! From my research, it seemed like this unit was also a few bucks cheaper than comparable units, too.
