I bought these so that my children could paint without going through reams of paper - they are prolific. They have used it well.We are also planning to learn Japanese at some point, so it will be used as it was designed. After a year, the paper is still good to use - I've not looked at the brushes.

Bought this for me and the next door kids to better handle brushes and in particular help the little one (6yo) to not use so much pressure when mark making, and the older ones (8 & 11yo) to learn to vary pressure and therefore have a more interesting line when drawing or painting. They're also super keen on learning how to do calligraphy, so this can be used for that for brush work also.It arrived with the 'paper' gently folded into 3, and unfortunately I squished the folds by accident, so now I'm flattening them under some heavy books, but they'll always have creases they wouldn't have had if I'd been a bit more careful with unpacking. The brushes shed quite a bit of hair on pre soaking before use, but the belly holds water well and have nice fine tips. They're plastic handled but feel good in the hand. The ink well/brush rest is pretty lightweight, but works well for adults, the kids I think would knock it over, so I'm using some jam jars.I'm also using other non-Chinese style watercolour and acrylic brushes with the paper and those are working well. The brushes that come with the set I suspect will be pretty fragile on the rough 'paper' so for kids, I'm using nylon brushes until they get the hang of it.The paper dries pretty quickly depending on how much water you put on, so can also be used to show the kids about tonal light/dark differences depend on how much water you use.overall really really pleased.
