Tut genau was sie soll.

It is a brilliant item and works well. Easy to use, light in weight. Only disadvantage is that you have to dedicate both of your hands while using it.

Bought May 2011, Reviewed May 2012, Updated Aug 2013I read a lot of bilge pump reviews before settling on this pump. I mean, I didn't NEED a bilge pump. An empty yogurt container serves as long as you don't mind tilting the kayak just so to scoop out the water. And even $20 is a lot of money for something that'll end up in the trash. Still, according to the reviews this was one of the few that didn't immediately fall apart or jam. And Sea to Summit seemed to be a pretty solid brand in general. (I've since bought one of their dry bags, also a quality product). The only initial criticism was that securely tethering the pump requires putting a rope through both the plastic sleeve and the handle. As a consequence, the tether has to be removed to operate the pump. FYI, in pictures the plastic sleeve is the dark object with lettering on it. It wraps securely around the orange body, with a tab that lies along side the handle. If not tethered along with the pump the plastic sleeve could slide off and get lost.I have used the pump dozens of times, deliberately sucking sand, mud and weeds with no problems. (I'm in and out of my kayak frequently while leading strips, tracking in whatever sticks to my boots, so I hardly need a piece of equipment that requires babying). Oh yeah, and this pump really does move a lot of water.More updates Aug 2013: This pump is solid. The only problem I've had with it is having to periodically wipe lithium grease on the rod that goes in and out - or else it gets so stiff I can barely move it. In fact twice now I've neglected this maintenance step only to realize mid trip that I didn't have a functioning pump. The silver lining to this cloud however, is that I've applied serious force on the handle and it hasn't even hinted at failure. Points for durability.Even though I'm sometimes skeptical of negative reviews, I admit I'm troubled at others' reports of failures because of the notorious unreliability of Chinese manufacturing. (See "Poorly Made in China" by Paul Midler). The design of this product is solid. The 5/8" diameter aluminum shaft with heavy plastic handle riveted to it is not a cheap assembly. Similarly, the outer body is made of thick, resilient plastic. Still, as per Mr. Midler, it is precisely in the the hidden parts, the "innards," that a Chinese manufacturer will cut corners thereby converting a great product into a little more intercontinental landfill.Practical hint, I used to simply secure this pump under my deck lines. I now tether it with a carabiner and a light rope tied around and under the seat. It's more secure that way and out of the way.
