I used to use oil based chain lubes, but started experimenting with wax based lubes about 3 years ago. Wax is great, but cleaning and waxing my chains in a cooker is not my idea of a great weekend. Enter SILCA Super Secret lube. For new chains, I now completely strip the new chain, then wax it in a pot but after using, I use the Super Secret lube for daily maintenance. I actually reapply after every ride and it really holds up well and doing this also seems to prevent the intrusion of other foreign particles inside the chain rollers. All my chains that receive this treatment have many 1000s of miles and none are showing much wear at all.Although expensive, one 8oz bottle used for several bikes and over 10,000 miles of daily application has lasted more than a year. And I have not had to replace any of my chains due to wear!

After working in, owning, and managing bike shops for 25 years, I have a little experience with bikes and lubes. I'm always a little skeptical of "dry lubes" because they usually don't last too long and forget about it if it's at all wet outside. This product exceeded my expectations by quite a bit. I mostly ride MTB in Northern Ca where it's dry and dusty for the majority of the year and this lube keeps the drivetrain clean. The longest I've gone in between lubing the chain before it made a ton of noise was 3 rides or about 50 miles. On the road bike, I've done a century and the lube didn't wear out or make me feel like I needed to re apply at a rest stop. When it's really really wet or actively raining, I wouldn't recommend it because it will wash off before the ride really gets going. That said, I have used it through the winter splashing through puddles and mud and it holds up ok, but I'd recommend a "wet lube" .You need to ensure that the chain is EXTREMELY clean prior to applying this lube. If you apply it over Tri-Flo or Dumondetech, your drivetrain will turn into a tar pit.

Silca makes the BEST by far bike chain lubricant. Just apply after each couple of rides and roll it into the chain which it loves the go right where it is most needed. My EBike has a 190 newton meter motor and would consume chains without this fantastic product. Chain must be perfectly oil or grease free for it to work properly and stick to the metal so following the instructions on the Silca website is paramount. A Silca hot wax is best at first especially with a Ultrasonic cleaner then the bottle after that.If you want the lowest friction and longest life for your expensive driveline then Silca is best. The best choice by miles and miles. Mountain biking since 1985. Tried it all. Independently tested by neutral party shows lowest friction.

First the good: Really excellent lube in terms of adhesion and lubrication... runs clean and works well, with good durability. Really the perfect lube for road riding where you use immersive waxing as a primary lube and then supplement this to increase your intervals between full re-immersion baths. On the road bike, I would typically pull the chain to clean and re-wax at roughly 250-300 mile intervals, but using this I've been able to push that out to roughly 500 miles greatly reducing the overall time and effort involved in my immersive waxing routine. In that role, this stuff is really ideal. The not so good: Off road, it picks up enough dirt to make re-application an issue since you'll want to clean it thoroughly before re-applying. For gravel or mountain bike use, you're looking at a full chain clean, rinse, dry, and reapplication every 3-5 hours of riding as opposed to a standard wet lube that you can re-apply and wipe clean.Overall: Definitely does a great job in terms of lubrication but adds quite a bit of extra work for off-road use. For me, I'll stick to a wet lube like Rock-n-Roll Gold for off road applications and use this as a supplemental lube between full re-applications of wax on the road bike.
