I am new to burnishing and beveling leather. I tried burnishing what I though was vegetable tanned leather using beeswax and mineral oil and it didn't work very well. Toko produced what I think is a great result on the same leather with much less effort. Toko makes it easy to get a smooth, shiny finish on the skin side of of leather with just a bit of elbow grease. I struggled with my edge beveler, but with a bit of practice, I figured out how much to remove from this particular leather to get an edge I really like. When you burnish the edge, it compacts the fibers and can form a raised lip on the skin surface if you don't remove some material from the edge wall before you start. Well, I don't think I have the greatest tools or skills, but my sample looks good enough for me, and I couldn't have done it without the Toko! I used wooden burnishers and it was interesting to see the leather darken and develop a shine. I found that it worked best to use thin coats and let the Toko sink into the leather for a few minutes before I started burnishing. You can always add more. I ended up applying several coats that worked into the leather until I got the shine and darkness I wanted. I used a stiff paint brush to apply it. A little goes a long way. Be careful when opening the jar. Mine did not have an inner seal and the product is pretty runny. I spilled some.

I use burnishing gums frequently in my leatherworking shop. I currently have 3 different brands sitting on my shelf. Out of those three, the - Toko Pro Burnishing Gum for Edges on Oil Tan and Veg Tan Leather – is the one that I like the best. At the time of this review, SLC is selling this 50 Gram jar for $9.95. They also offer Toko Burnishing Gum in a 100 Gram jar for about a $1.00 more which is a much better deal. In this leatherworker’s opinion, whichever size you purchase, it’s worth the price tag. I highly recommend.

I'm giving it 4 stars only because of price per gram. I did not realize how small this little "tub" would be. It's just a touch bigger than what you'd expect for a lip balm container to be. Otherwise, it worked really well! I got really solid edges and I was able to finish the rough side of the leather better than I have ever been able to before.
