I've been purchasing similar (but cheap) strainers for many years to keep the "bits and pieces" from dishes, etc from going down the kitchen drain (and eventually clogging it up). I decided to try these because the others get cruddy, some have rusted and they don't last very long. First, the rim on these is flat so the food bits can float right over it and into the basket part. On the other ones I've used, the rim was slightly raised, so bits accumulate around the edge and have to be pushed into the strainer basket part. Second, the screen basket part is sturdy metal with holes. The other ones I've had are simply window screen mesh metal fabric, which gets clogged with yucky gunk and is difficult to get clean. These new ones are stainless steel, much higher quality and look better too.

Sink strainers are nothing new. However, it's nice to have a pair that does the job so well.The mesh is fine and filters out a lot more than your average sink strainer. For people with septic systems and/or old plumbing, this is a big advantage. Things like hair and food debris are easily strained out of the waste water with this product. One thing to consider is that, because the mesh is so fine, debris can build up and impede the flow of waste water. you will want to empty these strainers regularly to prevent that.The overall design is simple and utilitarian but also looks pretty modern and nice. These strainers are easy to remove when it's time to empty them into the trashcan. The stainless steel construction ensures that rust will never be a problem and the 4.5" diameter ensures that these strainers will fit almost any kitchen sink.Overall, I'd say that these strainers are a bargain for the price.

I've been through zillions of sink strainers in my life and I hope this is the last one because it is so pretty! Sounds weird to call a sink strainer pretty, but it is so shiny and stylish that it really raises the look of my stainless steel sink up a few notches. That said, be aware that it doesn't look like the photo: it's kind of "squared off" if that makes any sense, and it doesn't have a "mesh" strainer the way it's pictured up front, it's really more like perforated stainless which is much, much nicer! It solid and sturdy and much easier to clean than any other sink strainer and I can't recommend this highly enough. I'm so glad they come in two's, because if anything DOES happen to this one (I can't imagine what) then I'll have a backup, and I don't ever want any other type of sink strainer again.
