The whistle is ok but not loud enough to draw attention at distances over 100m (or less). The compass can be quite hit and miss but usable if you already have a fair idea where north is facing and use this to confirm pointing accuracy. The fire starter took some getting use to but it did finally work ... just.However, the main attraction is this can be worn as a bracelet and literally "forgotten" about until needed and then you are delighted you have something that can be used.It is a nearly but not quite and had this been a kit to carry around in say a rucksack and not a bracelet then I would have rated it a lot lower.

These bracelets are cheap and some of the features are actually kind of useful.The fit is just right for my wrists which is handy it's supposed to be adjustable but I'm not sure how you'd go about adjusting them, the compass works as expected and is accurate enough it's not the greatest compass in the world but it'll do.The whistle works but it's not all that loud so I'm not sure exactly how much use it would be, the saw (if you can even call it that) would probably just about cut through the paracord but good luck cutting through anything more substantial than that.The best feature of these bracelets is the fire spark, you have to scrape away the black coating before it will work, but with that done it produces a reasonable spark and should be able to produce a fire if you have some decent tinder .I wasn't expecting much from these bracelets at just under £3 each , the features range from pretty good to barely functional but they do have some uses, just don't buy them for the whistle or the "saw" or you will be disapointed.

What works: the compass, whistle, and you can get some sparks from the fire starter.However, it is described as adjustable but it isn't. The pictures even show some adjuster mechanism but that is not present on the ones that I got.There is no obvious way of removing the paracord. The description says to "unravel the bracelet from the ending port.." I assume that means from one of the clip ends, but there is no way of doing that. The only way of getting at the paracord is to smash one of the ends off (presumably with a rock as no tool is supplied to do that :)).It states that you can remove the serrated metal part to use as a saw. You need a pair of pliers to pull the bit out (so pack those in your survival kit as well) and the notion of using it to cut anything useful is laughable.Disappointed. If I could adjust it to fit I could possibly live with it as a reasonably attractive man bracelet. As it is they are going in the bin.

Other than the remotest parts of Scotland I doubt there are many places in the UK where the utility of this would be required but that hasn't stopped a certain Cub Scout pestering me to get him one of these, and back in the dark ages when I were his age I would have loved one, so who am I to say no.I won't be using it myself but it will be heading off to various jamborees and weekend camps with the young un so I imagine it will get some use.If it is needed for an emergency I will be sure to report back.How I Rate- ***** Don’t think, just buy it!- **** Nothing to complain about, I’d spend my own money on this.- *** Does what it should but there may be better alternatives- ** Problems or issues encountered that outweigh any benefits.- * Run for the door!
