Very good Thai - English dictionary.Explains pronunciation well and has a comprehensive dictionary of terms.Helpful in makes learning the language far easier.

Had this book a few years ago when actually living in Thailand and other parts of S.E. Asia - the dictionary font is rather small and sometimes hard to read without a magnifying glass (especially for those folks that already have a need for spectacles/glasses). Having studied Thai for 2.5yrs, I feel the book covers a good range of words, however I don't think it has every Thai word. If you are looking for a dictionary that covers regular "street spoken" Thai, this helps in some regards however having lived in the country for some years book/school taught Thai is not always the way regular Thai's speak at times, lot of slang always used, as is the case in most languages. Overall, a great dictionary that will certainly set you on the right course.

本書はかつて秘密と怪奇に満ちていたタイ世界を英語圏に連結解放した傑作です。いわば新しい言語をプーム女史が作った、という事です。タイ語の単語が街角や授業で耳にしたサウンドから検索できます。小型なのでいつでも携帯でき、紙はぶあつめで旅先にても検索可能です。ただし英タイとタイ英はポケット辞典レベルで細かい説明はなく例文もありません、ので本格的な勉強にはテキストや文法書も別に必要です。若干の約束ごとをマスターしないと本書は使えません。p音がbp、k音がgなどから探さないといけませんし、wの発音も試行錯誤いります。タイ語をIPA表記から入った人は初め数時間は戸惑うことになりますが、IPA表記から単語検索することができない現状としては他に選択がなく(実用タイ日辞典でカタカナ検索するよりかなり元の音に忠実だし)、慣れると便利で使い良いです、逆にこの英語表記のよう表現言語が将来的なタイ語表音の標準化になってはと心配するくらいです、もし万が一そういうものがあればベトナム語表記ライクなタイ語が出現したんだといえるかもしれませんが。。。

Il migliore dizionario di lingua thai per straneiri in circolazione. Chiaro, mai scontato, in grafia thai e con traslitterazione (indica anche i toni), di formato praticissimo da portarsi dietro. Utile tanto per il turista, quanto per lo studente alle prime armi con il thai. Da consigliare.

I am so new and I really needed a good dictionary for this rather "strange" written language. Following the Thai itself with its 44 consonants and 20 some-odd vowels is not all that easy to learn at once. Of course, looking at English-Thai is a no-brainer. Then, the third option, phonetic transcription, was so easy for me right away! It is much faster than peering alphabetically through the Thai-English section. I actually heard a couple of words as well as saw the Thai script. I looked it up in the phonetic transcription, and, right there, next to it is the page number. I went to the page number each time and, looking up and down each of the two columns of Thai-English, there is the script just as I could see it. This system works and, for a beginner, it is essential! I tried the other dictionaries to no avail! This, I feel, recommends this dictionary rather well.
