The UTEK converter cable works perfectly. Just make sure you use the enclosed CD with the latest Driver before you try to use the cable. For the price I would recommend it to anyone that requires communicating through their computer USB terminal.

This product is really nice. Thanks to the FTDI USB interface, it just works with the Linux and Mac machines I tested it with without installing any special drivers (I didn't have access to Windows for testing). I did not test super fast speeds, but the device was solid for moderate speeds like 19.2K and 39.4K. It comes in really nice packaging.Something the product page does not say is that the package also includes a small DB-9 to screw-terminal breakout dongle, which is really helpful when you are running cable from here to there. That saves you the trouble of making a breakout, or paying $7-12 for one on-line.The complaints about no printed documentation included are somewhat legit. There is a mini-CD-ROM included in the package, but since the disk's small form factor won't fit in my CD drive, I have no idea what is on the disk. You can find documentation at the http://www.szutek.cn website, and searching for the product name, UT-890A. It is written in fairly good English, good enough to describe the important information like the product specs, pin-out of the adapter, and basic RS-422/485 network topology.I should also say that at the large organization where I work, we use these in experimental labs with great success.
