This USB converter is versatile as to alternate serial interfaces and TTL voltage. Removable screw terminals are provided for the RS485 and TTL connections. The converter box is screw-mountable through four slots in the metal case. I tested both the RS485 and TTL interfaces; they proved to support high data rates. There are separate LEDs for transmit and receive to assist with debugging live connections. I'm happy with this USB converter and recommend it.

the device is of good physical quality. The construction is solid and the connectors are industry-standard.On a Windows 10 PC (i5, 16 GB), the device was immediately recognized.I tested the connection in modbus mode (9600,n,8,1) with a number of dedicated tools (modbus poll among others) and connected several modbus peripherals (various sensors) from several manufacturers (some Chinese, others more recognized industrial).I didn't test the TTL connection because I don't have any TTL peripherals other than one installed in production mode (Hubitat, Lutron Caseta Pro) that I wanted to keep. A future test, probably. The control LEDs are useful (Rx, Tx) and work as expected. Complementary software tests (wireshark) confirmed that this device works well. There's no documentation provided, but a simple search on the net (Waveshare) will give you all you need.I therefore recommend this product.

I like the converter and it works well. I would however like to see din rail mounts.

I have only used my Waveshare CH343G USB to RS232/485/TTL in RS232 mode so far. The unit is hooked to your computer’s USB port with the included USB-A to USB-B cable. From the unit’s DB9 connector I used a 9 pin serial cable to attach to my serial device. Years ago, a 9 pin serial port was pretty much standard on all desktop and laptop computers. Since their disappearance, the only way to control your serial devices was to buy a USB to serial cable which had a built in chip to convert the data from your USB port to the serial device’s serial port. In my experience over the years, I had many problems with these cables. They usually had a Prolific or FTDI interface chip which needed the proper drivers to work. I found that they could be difficult to use at times with poor connections or some even contained illegal chips from overseas that didn’t work as they should. This Waveshare device looks well constructed and is encased in an aluminum case. One side has the USB-A connection to your computer as well as a 9 pin db9 male connector to hook your device’s serial cable to. The other side of the Waveshare has some screw connections to hook up a 485 or TTL connection if desired. What I really like is the 3 activity lights for power, TXD and RXD, so you can monitor activity on the connection. Without the lights, and you are having issues, you are never really sure what the problem could be. The lights at least let you know of the computer is talking and receiving data from your device in question. I have used the Waveshare CH343G with both my Celestron telescope and my Davis weather station, all of which are about 20 years old. Both worked great with no issues. I pluged the Waveshare device into my Windows 10 machine and it was immediately identified and activated without me having to install the included driver. The instructions say that the device will show up under “My Computer” as a CD drive which contains the driver install program. In my case for some reason, it wasn’t required. I feel it is a superior system compared to a USB to serial cable and for me has been more reliable. I can recommend this product for an RS 232 connection but I imagine the 485 and TTL connections work as advertised as well.
