Neben den Dolchversionen (176/ 178) gibt es seit 2016 das SOCP auch als Rescue Hook. An der Spitze wurde zudem ein Glasbrecher angebracht. Das 179 ist deshalb auch für Selbstverteidigungszwecke geeignet.

I bought this as a smaller alternative to the now discontinued Leatherman Z-Rex. The Z-Rex was considerably cheaper and has the advantage of replaceable cutters. These are unfortunately discontinued by Leatherman and the replacement cutters long ago sold out. I find the Benchmade 179 to be more compact and it comes with a considerably better sheath compared to the Leatherman Z-Rex.The handles is in some situations on the thinnest side, and seeing as the cutters aren’t replaceable I would have preferred another steel than 440C but it works.I keep the Leatherman Z-Rex in the car and the Benchmark strapped to the molle of my medical kit for easy access.

Bought this to have in my car for accidents. Only flaw is that the opening to put your finger through to pull the tool out of the sheath is not wide enough, and scrapes the skin. Simple solution - file the sheath down a bit.

I bought this for my husband’s birthday. He is a first responder and didn’t have a seatbelt cutter / glass breaker. He ended up having to use this glass breaker a few months afterwards on a car crash. He said he was expecting it to take a few tries to go through the window but it bust through on the first try! He carries this with him whenever he’s working and many of his friends are buying the same one.

I just need to figure out how to mount this effectively in my vehicle. I had an older model in my vehicles for years but needed to replace it after a break-in. The exact version isn’t available on the website and may be military only I’m not sure. But this works well. A little odd in the sheath with no way to use molle straps but I’m sure I’ll suss it out soon.
