This is a nice auger. The screw is properly tapered so it starts in the wood easily. The weld for the eye is centered and it has about an inch of hex if you want to turn it with a wrench. I was able to easily bore holes in oak and maple. The scotch eye is supposed to be used to help make your tenons and the edge is fairly sharp. It works well enough to get the last little bit of wood off so that your tenons are round and fit in the holes you bored. I like the size of it because you are able to make holes in fairly large pieces of wood. Going with me on my next camping trip. The pouch is made from flimsy fake leather but there is a part that wraps around the screw so protect it.

Received in the mail, as pictured.I used a pair of vice grips just below the scotch eye to twist the device. It would work better by putting a stick through the eye, to utilize necessary down force on the tool.The actual drilling bit section was quite sharp.Overall, good quality for what you pay.

I got this to add to my “things that look cool but I’m really unlikely to ever need/use” drawer. Jokes aside, this thing is well made and sturdy. There were a few dings in the steel but nothing problematic. The drill part came very sharp. I liked that it has a hex area below the eye that you could put a wrench on if needed. The only issues I found were that the eye part was not sharp at all and the inside of the eye had a very rough finish. Nothing that some filing and sanding couldn’t remedy but I shouldn’t have needed to do it at all. The case is handy and the wrap to put around the drill part to hold like a handle is also appreciated. I tested it in pressure treated 4x4 and it worked great.

Quality, quality, quality! It's all one piece of metal with no joints to worry about working loose. The craftsmanship is really nice. Also nice are the genuine leather blade wrap and sheath with a carabiner attached. The hole for the stick is slightly over one inch wide and tapered on one side. It comes out of the box very sharp so please be careful.I think it is super easy to use. Just find a sturdy stick (or rod) that will fit snuggly in the hole, press down, and turn. I found it worked great using a one-inch wooden dowel. The tip is self-tapping and makes quick work of starting the hole. After the hole is started, just keep it straight and press down as you turn.Obviously, harder woods will be tougher to drill into than softer ones.This is a very well-made item and will last for a long, long time. I'm very pleased.
