This is basically the Yu6 but unpowered and at a way better price point. You can probably buy this set, an amp, and a DAC for the same price as the Yu6. If you already have a DAC and amp then these things the best deal on the market especially if you can snag them on sale. The bass is okay. If you have space, I would seriously consider the 5.25" over the 4" just for more bass.If you're not a bass head, you would probably be happy with just these speakers without a sub. I'm using these as computer speakers and they are perfect. I don't like that much bass on my computer anyway, doesn't do anything except make gunfire too boomy and distracting.

I absolutely love these speakers!! I cannot stand bright speakers for my sensitive ears, and these are perfect!!! No exaggerated highs, and pure neutral clear sound! Cannot express how amazing these are for their price…

EDIT: After using these for a few weeks and letting them break in, I can say with confidence that they definitely punch well above their weight. They beat the Q Acoustics handily and give KEF 350s a run for their money. The KEFs maybe have a slightly better soundstage, but these Kantos have a more balanced sound all around.I was looking for some cheaper passive speakers for my office. These ones fit the bill: good size, good company, look great. These aren't blowing anyone away, but they do sound great for their price range: I feel like they sound better than the KEF Q150s I tried and about on par with KEF Q350s. They have a similar character to those, but they are only $199 for a set. They also sound better to me than the Q Acoustic 3020i set I used to have.My biggest criticism is that they can be a tad tiring at first and a little muddy in the mid-upper range. But with some breaking in, they start to open up really nicely.Overall, maybe the best passive speakers for this price. Most users won't notice a major difference between these and $1500 KEF speakers, and they look super nice. Are they giant killers or going to make high-end audiophiles happy? Probably not. Are they great for music lovers and people who want rock-solid workhorse speakers? Yep, absolutely.Pair these with a decent cheap amp like the Loxjie and you have a super great entry level sound system.

For the money it would be hard to beat these speakers - Heck for $500 it would be hard to beat these speakers for my application which is a tight and less the ideal spot - but it is what it is.I have been struggling for years to find the right size and sound identity of speakers for this spot as seen in the pictures.I have had Quad 11L's here, Elac Debut DB5 and latterly my favourite the Pioneer SP-B22LR.While I think or I hear - as the this is personal preference - the tweeter in the Pioneer sounds smoother/more elegant than the Kanto. Its construction is superior but somehow they have managed to to make these tweeters work. within the overall package. The woofer is larger of course and the crossover network which they do not talk about (I have had a look when I changed out the binding posts which was not strictly necessary but it works better with my banana plugs and massive speaker cable) is well designed and sounds great and blends with the subwoofer perfectly. It it hard to find a speaker of this size (they are small) with 5.2.5 inch woofers. The speakers are being fed by a high quality integrated Anthem 225 amplifier and the Dac is the new Schiit Modius. The source music are FLAC (ALAC files on the last and best generation iPod Classic which has the digital data drawn out by the Wadia 171i Dock. Superb.Oh I also like the no logo stark simple look of the speakers - a Classic and simple look.I have angled acoustic foam under the speakers and put those spherical 1" diameter 1/2" height feet on the speakers - the result is a solid foundation and an in your face solid experience which is delightful. This after 20 years of trying everything, but aside from the Pioneer speakers, nothing else REALLY FIT.I also have a powerful Martin Logan 700 Dynamo Subwoofer in this little system dialled in perfectly. It shouldn't work with the window so close to the speakers - BUT it DOES!!I felt compelled to write this review (which I am not inclined to do) because the small financial gamble I made paid off in spades.Oh and my old office which is now my music centre where I do work on the music on the Mac and transfer to the iPods in all rooms is where all of this is located.I recommend these speakers to pretty well to anyone. They are inoffensive at worst and yet have a wonderful punch and balanced sound combined with synergy to the electronics that feed it.Are they audiophile? - I suppose not but, I have a very expensive system in my main listening room upstairs that cost in the 10's of thousands - do they work and sound good and is the sonic signature for me - YES on all scores.People call me an audiophile and I have been at it 60 years - but I think what is important more than the money spent, is whether or not you like the sonic signature. Who cares if they are 'audiophile' - I don't. I don't want to pay for wood veneer and all the things Big Name Speaker Makers add to the products and cost without changing the sonic signature whatsoever.I like these better than the Quad 11L's and and the Elac DB5's which are a tad boxy in this spot. The Pioneers are a close second and I wonder if they had a larger woofer how they might then compare.
