Using bitmaps for all the Japanese text in the Kindle edition is a very poor choice since you can't search, mark text, increase the text size or use the dictionary. Even zooming in is very limited and only works OKish for the Android app but not very well on the Kindle Scribe where the zoomed view looks absolutely horrible. However, without zooming in, the Furigana are barely readable on the Kindle Scribe. It is actually somewhat impossible to differentiate between dakuten and handakuten on the Kindle Scribe even when using a magnifying glass since the resolution is just too low.Note that the physical edition of the book also suffers from very small printing but at least the printing is sharp enough to tell dakuten/handakuten apart with very (!) good eyes or a magnifying glass.On top of this, the Kindle edition can't be downloaded/used with the Kindle PC application for whatever reason. Since the text is close to unreadable on an actual Kindle, this leaves only the Android app to read the Kindle edition. Even there, the text is blurry when zoomed and the missing search/mark/dictionary features making this a very, very poor e-Book edition - especially when considering that the digital edition costs about the same as the physical edition.

As mentioned in other reviews, the content of the book is great, but the Japanese text is shown as one image for each page and is therefore not useable on the kindle.

Das buch gibt mir genau das was ich brauche :)Ich möchge gerne in der lage sein auf japanisch zu lesen und mit dem englischen text direkt daneben wird es einem zumindest so leicht wie möglich gemacht. Immer noch wirklich schwierig voranzukommen aber das buch macht es einem zumindest so leicht wie es geht

Hierbei handelt es sich um bekannte Kurzgeschichten, die in japanisch und englisch vorliegen. Die Geschichten selbst sprechen mich literarisch nur bedingt an.Positiv ist, dass es dieses Buch zum Üben für fortgeschrittene Japanischlerner gibt. Mein Japanisch-Niveau liegt etwa bei JLPT-N4 bis N3, wodurch das Buch eine verlockende Herausforderung für mich darstellt.Manchmal inkonsistent, selten sogar falsch, werden Furigana für Kanjis gesetzt (oder nicht gesetzt). Ebenfalls erschwert der Satz (Layout), einzelne Passagen schnell nachzuschlagen. Das Auge / der Finger ist viel am Suchen. Die Druck- / Papierqualität und die sehr klein gedruckten Furigana sind noch als Minuspunkte zu erwähnen.Unterm Strich gefällt mir das Buch jedoch sehr gut, da es eine sinnvolle Ergänzung zum üblichen Japanischstudium darstellen kann und einen ersten Zugang zu namhaften japanischen Autoren bietet.

Very good book. The only complaint is that the kanji and furigana are small. You will need to provide a magnifying glass to be comfortable.Très bon bouquin. Le seul reproche qu'on peut faire est que les kanji et furigana sont assez petits. Il vous faudra utiliser une loupe pour être confortable.

The book was in perfect condition. The book itself is ideal for Japanese learners who can refer to the parallel English text and build on their vocabulary—a 10/10 recommendation from an N4 candidate!

Really great book! Easy to read and great for learning. I‘ve already translated a whole page ,and I added a picture of what the pages looked like without revealing too much of the text. Because before I bought the book, I wasn’t sure what it would look like :)

5 Sterne für den Stil: Links englisch, rechts japanisch mit hiragana über den Kanji.1 Stern für die Auswahl der Kurzgeschichten (Geschrieben zwischen 1947 und 1968). 6 von 8 habe ich gelesen und werde die anderen zwei wohl nicht mehr lesen. Was ich aus 5 gelernt habe:- Liebe hält depressive Menschen am Leben- Jeder Mensch hat ein geistiges und/oder körperliches Trauma, das er verarbeiten muss- Schwangerschaft ist schön, Babys sind anstregend und hässlich- Es gibt einen von Katzen überfüllten Park, in dem Haustiere ausgesetzt werden- Alte Menschen sind besser als Spielzeug für Erwachsen (Bitte??!)Nur eine Geschichte war einigermaßen lesenswert und gehört eher ins Genre Fantasy.Dieses Buch empfehle ich absolut nicht.

The book has furigana so it's helpfuly. In a page has english and the other japanese.Not convenient for me but fine for other.

Well laid out stories, with the side-by-side English and Japanese (with furigana) text making it easy to follow along while avoiding backtracking. Definitely recommended for anyone who wants to practice their Japanese reading skills with the context in English to follow along.

Arrivato nei tempi e in perfette condizioni. Era da tanto che cercavo una lettura in giapponese con testo a fronte che fosse anche di contenuto interessante e non le solite favolette per bambini. Il livello di giapponese che serve per leggerlo non è eccessivamente alto ma neanche per principianti ma mi sento di consigliarlo comunque (a chi proprio non è all'hiragana diciamo) perché oltre al testo a fronte (in inglese) c'è il furigana (solo alla prima apparizione di un kanji, poi viene dato per scontato che lo si abbia imparato e sprona per questo a farlo e, per me che sono pigra, è molto positivo). Non l'ho ancora finito solo per ragioni di mancanza di tempo ma le prime storie che ho letto anche se brevi estratti mi sono piaciute (lasciano un po' in sospeso ovviamente però magari poi uno si va a leggere in italiano il libro da cui sono tratte se vuole approfondire e alla fine c'è anche un elenco di altri testi interamente trattati da penguin in giapponese con testo a fronte). In conclusione lo consiglio a chi sta cercando una lettura per esercitarsi col giapponese che non sia però mera esercitazione. L'emozione di poter leggere un pezzo di letteratura in lingua originale è molto motivante e cimentarsi con letture "vere" abbastanza presto è a mio parere molto importante (anche se io ahimè lo sto facendo solo ora che ho un livello già più avanzato ma avrei voluto poterlo fare prima).
