Beautiful device. Incredibly well built . Love the AKM chips they lean towards a warmer sound . I’ve used it with my WiiM Ultra ,& even better my Eversolo DMP A8 which also has AKM chips they lean. I use it with my Focal OG Clear , Elex , &Celeste’s. I’m happy with the sound quality . The Amp will power most everything. I like the excess of connectability . It has been reliable since my purchase. I would buy it again and recommend it.

This is just about best of breed, only thing better is the $3400+ Nuprime Evolution DAC or DAC-2, I've owned both and those are the best for economic budgets and "3k+ no limit" DACS. The display on the DX9 is its greatest beauty after its functionality as best of ~1k breed boxes. The old style vu meters are beautiful and the fft fast Fourier transform display is my fave. Pair this with a U90 Topping to get the box closer to the Nuprime Evolution dac without the 2500$ more. Best ~1k dac box out there!

This is a beautifully designed and feature packed unit. Its technical performance (i.e., measured performance) is exemplary. The dual OLED screens placed symmetrically around the volume knob are an excellent design feature and look great in FFT mode (spectrum analyzer). However, as much as I wanted to love this unit because it struck so many right chords, I had to return it because after nearly two weeks of getting it to sound more full-bodied (harmonically richer) by trying different digital inputs and letting it warm up and burn in, the sound remained lean. Clean, but lean.My system consists of highly revealing B&W 804 D4 speakers and Naim Audio separates. I’m not a headphone person but I also tested the headphone outputs (both balanced XLR and 6.35mm) with planar headphones and regular diaphragm headphones. The headphone amp on this unit is very powerful and for a moment I thought it was doing a great job. But when I connected the same headphones to my secondary system consisting of Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition with linear power supply upgrade and Schiit Jottenheim, I was again drawn convincingly towards the Eversolo/Jottenheim combo, which imparted noticeably greater tonal richness without sacrificing detail (i.e., without muddying the sound in any way).So eventually I decided to return this unit. It was a tough decision. I really love the industrial design and feature set. I only wish that Topping would either provide a firmware update or produce a revised edition that significantly improves tonal richness.

First, I'd like to say the Topping Dx9 is a 5 star product. From the design to the specs and of course the sound. I noticed a wider soundstage, more detail and the power to drive even power hungry headphones. The menus are easy to navigate, the volume knob is sturdy + feels great to turn and plenty of connectivity options. The glass top allows you to see into the machine to admire the electronics while lit up by LEDs. And that's where 1 star gets removed.Upon admiring the beautiful Dx9 I was saddened to see not 1, not 2 but 3 capacitors leaning and 1 leaning pretty far. I reached out to Topping support who reassured me that this is fine and won't affect the machine in any way. They even said I could ship it back (I pay shipping to them) to have it repaired or I could bring it to a local repair shop and have it repaired without voiding the warranty, even if the repair shop was to damage the Dx9 (I kinda don't wanna find out if they mean that or not). I could also return it to Amazon but it's working as intended and not malfunctioning and I love the machine so far. Plus, who knows what another Dx9 would look like inside... Either way, it's going to cost me some money to get it looking like it should if I choose to go that route. I don't believe I should have to and that's why I docked a star. For $1200 plus tax, AND a see through glass top, the electronics should all be set correctly.
