So I like the pottery look of these bowls and think they add a certain amount of elegance to my dinnerware. That being said, they are just bowls and they are rather expensive for what they are. But, if you like the design of them, then I can recommend them, as they hold a good amount of food, look especially good with salad in them, and they microwave and dishwash well.I've enjoyed them so far, but have knocked 1 star simply due to the utility-to-value ratio.

I thought i would love this set of bowls, i actually think that these bowls fall short of the actual product they were trying to deliver, the picture is nothing like the actual bowls, the pictures make it seem like they have a more rustic, texturized look, it looks like cheap glazed stoneware, i personally believe it should of been matted if they were going for the "organic rustic" look, meh don't think it is worth the price.

The bowl looks amazing and It contrasts the color of fruits and cereal. Quality is top notch and the design is very unique.

This is a lovely set of two stoneware bowls, medium sized (think side dishes or small soup or salad bowls) –hand molded and finished in what is described as an 'off-white' glaze – a soft dove grayish white.Marie Micheilssen is described on the Serax site as an 'established in-house designer' for over twenty years. Her social media site is full of charming inspirational images of a warm but pared, minimal aesthetic that carries over into the La Mère series of which these bowls belong – the intent of which the designer describes as celebrating the role of women in everyday tasks such as meals. As someone who appreciates thoughtful design – whether in completely hand-made or mostly industrially manufactured everyday objects I am happy to add these bowls to my eclectic collection. My finds are varied – discoveries from crafts sales to high-street store markdown areas. My interests lie in designs that touch me, perhaps with whimsical shapes and colors – yet everything I choose must be practical – and the La Mère series achieves both. The price point here is not of a mass produced item found in a store like IKEA for example (although I do own plenty of items from there I feel are quite well designed!) – nor are these bowls priced appropriately for a completely handmade item (although I do proudly support local craftspeople when I can).Considering the range of designers supported by Serax – (some are quite well-known) – and materials used, the pricing does not seem inappropriate. As a self-confessed bargain-hunter I'm more likely to squirrel these pieces away for gift-giving if I can bear to part with them.Seeing how I've usually encountered well-designed and manufactured pieces like these in more exclusive urban boutiques (I 'window shop' more than I actually buy!), I find it compelling that they are offered here and hope they will find an appreciative audience. One concern I've discussed with friends (some are artisans/craftspeople) is that the information about this series does not appear to address ethical manufacturing – (unless I have missed something..?) There is information provided about sustainability in manufacture which is very much appreciated – however, it would be quite helpful if Serax could also provide additional information about working conditions in manufacture to set our minds at ease ... That information could be quite a powerful purchasing incentive!

These are perfectly ok bowls for eating a meal from. They do that job just fine. However, I think they are extremely overpriced at $56 for the pair. At that price, and based on the description and pictures, I assumed there would be some fine details to these ceramic pieces, that they would be interesting vessels up close. I was disappointed to find this wasn't the case. The asymmetry of the bowls seems to be an attempt to appear rustic and genuine, one-of-a-kind and handmade, like a potter's cast offs. I would judge this a failure. The fact that both bowls are asymmetrical in exactly the same way (my guess is that they were actually made from a mold rather than rustically hand thrown), yet somehow impossible to nest into a stack, is annoying to me on a practical level. The glaze is sleek and regular, and the color rather bland and grubby. I think with some texture this design could be saved. But as it stands, they're just bowls, and weird ones at that.
